A  parent always wants what is best for their child. For busy, working parents choosing a healthy and stimulating environment that encompasses every aspect of care and an early love of learning is extremely important. Courtney A. S. Pharr, owner of Creative World School River Walk, beams with happiness when she speaks of the loving, nurturing, and educational environment her school has provided over the last 10 years.

The backbone of Creative World’s philosophy is based on the 3 Es, also known as the Foundation for Excellence. It’s a curriculum that encompasses education, exploration, and enrichment for every stage of a child’s development. The brightly colored, inviting spaces offer a charming warmth that would make any child comfortable. From the mini carousel to the fun castle, delight and learning await the little ones.

“The curriculum is set up so that the children are having fun and learning at the same time,” Executive Director Shannon D. Hull emphasizes. “We are not a daycare; we are a school. Our goal is to make an important impact by teaching kids that education is fun, and by doing that we are building lifelong learners.”

Communication is the key to any successful relationship, especially between a parent, teacher and school administrator. With that in mind Shannon has implemented an innovative app for the school called Creative World App. “The app allows us to communicate with our parents directly, and they can customize how they receive their information. They can either receive real-time notifications as the day progresses or they can opt for a daily report sent at the end of the day,” Shannon explains. “The app shares what their child ate and how much, how potty training is going if that applies, how often an infant was changed, if they had a great nap – many of the things their child experienced that day. It is all about making sure the parents who are working so hard at their jobs get the scoop about the entirety of the day. That gives an enormous amount of peace of mind to parents.”

The app has been up and working since January and has received excellent feedback. Mom Jessica F. says, “They are such a great faculty and staff!! The mobile app is awesome. I love being informed in real-time about my son’s day, as well as getting the reminders and pictures. I feel confident that my son will be safe and in a clean learning environment every day when I drop him off.”

Another benefit of the CW app is it can be used as a quick communication tool for both the school and the parents. They can let each other know about any specific needs or concerns that day without having to make a phone call. This can be incredibly helpful for people who cannot have their phones with them while at work. The parents can even message the office if they are running late or if their child will not be there that day. It keeps parents connected to their children, and that makes them happy and confident throughout their child’s educational journey.

“Parents can change the option of real-time or end of day notifications if their situation changes. And for those who are not high tech, the system is still very easy to use - it can be accessed via email or, for instant access, as an app on their cell phone,” Courtney says.

“We focus on our iSTEAM Curriculum - science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The ‘i’ is for inquiry - everything we do is about getting the students to ask questions and want to know more. It’s about building those lifelong learners who want to learn more by investigating, researching, exploring and experiencing new and different things,” Shannon explains.

During the day teachers will document learning experiences by taking pictures. No matter which way a parent has chosen to receive their notifications they will be able to see how their child’s day went.

“In a few weeks we’ll be having our first digital portfolio reviews when we’ll be meeting with the parents,” Shannon says. “We’ll be sharing everything the teacher has been doing with the children on a daily basis. They’ve been documenting all the assessments and developmental and educational milestones that the kids have been mastering. Parents will be shown additional photos and we’ll give them an overview of what their children are doing at our school and where their child is excelling.”

Courtney shares her own experiences as a mother. “One of my favorite parts of the day is when I get home and pull out my phone. My three year old, Graham, knows right where the app is. He’s like a movie star for the day; there are pictures or videos of him and descriptions from the teacher. One day we saw a video from the Mighty Kicks soccer program where they did their Mighty Kicks cheer. Considering that the day before he didn’t want to go to soccer at all, and then seeing him so excited about it and participating in the group really warmed my heart. And that’s what I want to give to other parents.”

Creative World offers a Summer Camptastic program for kids up to 12 years old. The theme changes every two weeks to keep the children excited and engaged. There will be a special event every day that will be documented through the app and, with a question and answer session, it’s also a good conversation starter that picks the kids’ brains and jogs their memories to help them remember what they did.

“I love the focus on learning and exploration, even for the infants. I love the new app!” Alison C. affirms. “Getting notifications throughout the day puts me at ease that my daughter is doing okay. That was especially important to me when she first started there.”

Courtney and Shannon share a commitment and passion for seeking the very best for their students and families. “I’m really excited about the program,” Shannon declares. “I love this school and I love the systems that we have in place, and the app is something that makes us better than ever!”
