The $500 was used to fund the WormWatchers program being used in Mrs. Maricar Harris' science classes. The program focuses on turning food scraps into compost for use in a garden. This ties into lessons on recycling, the environment, soil composition, and, in the future, it will incorporate nutrition. Mrs. Harris' classes will start off using the compost to revitalize and beautify a flower garden at the school. The program will eventually expand to include the planning and planting of a vegetable garden by the students. The produce from that garden will go to the St. Matthew Church food pantry.
