African American Heritage Day
The Children's Museum of Portsmouth hosted an African American Heritage Day. Museum staff and volunteers from Norfolk State University's Athletics Department guided patrons through a celebration of African American inventors, performers, leaders and fine artists. In addition, visitors were allowed to partake of the museum's regular activities, including the planetarium.
Norfolk State University volunteer Jeanette Sauceda taught visitors to craft a Sankofa Bird, a West African symbol used to remind people to look back at history in order to move forward into the future.
