Chesapeake Rotary Awards $7,000 in Scholarships
The Chesapeake Rotary recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to each of the city's high school valedictorians at the Chesapeake Conference Center. Each valedictorian was introduced by their high school's principal and then spoke briefly about their accomplishments and service to the community in the spirit of the Rotary theme Service before Self. After the speech, Rotary President John Henry Martin presented the scholarship check. Each year the Chesapeake Rotary raises money for these scholarships through the First Citizen of Chesapeake Award Dinner. The next First Citizen Award Dinner will be held on September 10, 2009 at the Chesapeake Conference Center. For more information please visit the Rotary website at www.chespeakerotary.org.
