G Gathering Butterfly Festival 2007

Butterfly Festival 2007

The Butterfly Society of Virginia hosted the Butterfly Festival 2007 at the Hampton roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Virginia Beach. It was great fun for the entire family! Everyone was invited to make butterfly habitats, hear stories, shop for crafts and plants and walk through vivarium (an enclosed tent filled with local butterflies). To conclude the event all of the butterflies in the tent were set free!

The Butterfly Society of Virginia shared interesting facts about butterflies, moths and dragonflies.

Janet Gould, age six, had this lovely butterfly painted on her cheek.

Clare Davis from Virginia Beach was surprised when this butterfly landed on her in the vivarium.

Phyllis Doverspike, from the Princess Anne Library shared a story about The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

D'Angelo Kirby, 8, (in the middle) shared stories with James Bulter, 7 (left) and Jonathan Butler, 2 (right).

Tyler Berg, 5, from Norfolk planted some seeds.

Colorful butterflies were made at the arts and crafts table.

Two musicians from the Kempsville High School Orchestra entertained with beautiful music.

Molly, 9 and Elizabeth, 8 Sykes enjoyed planting seeds.

Maggie Bray, 7, Eli Bray, 5 and Gabriel Sizemore, 5 made butterfly habitats including caterpillars to watch change in to butterflies!
