Rose and Womble Realtor® David Wilkey is no stranger to real estate. In fact, for him, it’s a family affair. What began from car rides as a child with his Realtor® father became a family legacy of real estate experience. Joined by Kim, his wife of 37 years, their daughter, Kesha Wilkey-Prim, and their son, Brian, the family forms the core of Rose and Womble’s Wilkey Extreme Team, providing valuable experience to people seeking Realtors®  to aid them in the sale or purchase of their largest life investment – their home.

Growing up in Norfolk, David recalls childhood memories of his dad’s business. “My dad was, and still is, in real estate. I can still remember riding with him in the car with his big cell phone in the front and all his books in the back that I would look through,” he says smiling.

“We bring a lot of experience
to the table for our clients.
We invest that experience in them
to help educate and counsel them
so that they can have
the best and most profitable
real estate experience.”

Later in life, David would be reacquainting himself with real estate manuals. In 1989, market conditions and physical demands prompted him to switch from his career as a custom builder in Chesapeake to follow in his father’s footsteps to real estate.

“I did a lot of the physical building labor myself, which got to be tiring for a family man, but more than that was the real estate market in the ’80s. Interest rates were high and the market was slow. As a builder, all of your money is tied up in the homes you construct, and when they take a long time to sell that becomes problematic. I saw real estate as a better way to take control of my financial future.”

Twenty-two years later, David took his vast experience to Rose and Womble and assembled his Wilkey Extreme Team in 2011. They work tirelessly from their offices in the stately, colonial Rose and Womble building on Cedar Road to successfully guide buyers and sellers through the often confusing and overwhelming process of buying and selling homes.

The team’s motto says it all – ‘Providing Results through Experience’ and their results are evident. With over 80 years of combined experience, David and his team of twelve have ranked in the top one percent across the nation in production, are ranked as the number one real estate team at Rose and Womble, and receive consistent verified 5-star reviews on Zillow.

“We bring a lot of experience to the table for our clients,” David states with assurance. “We invest that experience in them to help educate and counsel them so that they can have the best and most profitable real estate experience.”

David, a licensed broker in Virginia and North Carolina, specializes in seller representation. He recommends prospective sellers to interview a few different real estate agents before listing to get varied opinions and to check for experience. “I’m always amazed that so many people hire real estate agents without checking on their knowledge and experience level and without determining what they can bring to the table,” he states.

“People are dealing with their largest investment and need to be working with a Realtor® that’s fully qualified to bring experience to the table to educate them in the best way to sell their homes and get top dollar for their properties. A realtor without the proper knowledge or experience could result in a final result that’s less than satisfactory for the client,” he adds.

As a selling agent, David uses his experience to help clients maximize their return on their sale. He strategizes with sellers to make sure they understand current real estate market conditions and home values.

“I’ll do a full home evaluation of their property to find potential repairs that need to be addressed that might pop up on an appraisal, inspection, or that buyers will be looking at,” he explains. “I strongly advise them to have these done before listing so the property will be prepared to go on the market. A move-in ready home always sells faster with fewer price negotiations.”

As an added resource and service, David and his team provide sellers with a list of licensed and insured contractors that clients can call for estimates on any pre-sale repairs. “These are contractors that we use on a regular basis and we know they’ll do a good job at a competitive price,” he states.

With the holidays over and market predictors anticipating greater than normal listings this year, David tells prospective sellers that the market is ripe for listing. “It’s a good market right now,” he advises. “The sooner sellers get their homes on the market, the better off they’ll be. Home inventory is low at the moment, but listings spike from late March through May. The later people wait to list their homes, the more competition they’ll face. That can result in longer sales times or lower sales prices. There are still plenty of people looking to buy homes before spring.”

David is not alone in providing vast knowledge and experience to Rose and Womble clients. “I work with an awesome team,” he acknowledges with pride. “They’re all great, experienced people and are very savvy in marketing, technology, and social media. I always say that even though a client hires and works with one of our professional agents, they have the whole team behind them. We help each other by brainstorming and networking properties to find clients exactly what they want. It’s what makes us so successful in producing results.”
