AMY BREWER

Medical Marketing with Heart

by Wendell Ward

In the realm of medical marketing, where experience and knowledge lead to breakthrough results, Amy Brewer excels.

Shaped by the profound influence of her father, a respected surgeon, Amy is a medical marketing specialist whose professional journey is a testament to the power of hard work and passion. With more than two decades of experience and a roster of prestigious clients, Amy has crafted a career as multifaceted as it is impactful.

"We were a family of deep faith," Amy says. "Growing up on a huge farm while tending to 11 siblings and lots of animals instilled in me a deep sense of compassion and responsibility. These qualities shaped my character and translated well into the medical field, where empathy and a strong sense of duty are vital."

Shepherding the family farm may have been the mainspring of Amy's work ethic, but even as a child, she was steeped in her father's mission, witnessing firsthand the expertise and attentiveness he brought to his patients. Bright and curious, Amy would often explore his medical library and papers, accompany him on hospital rounds, and attend patient support groups he moderated. As a teen, she worked alongside her father at his office, where she assisted in managing the business end of his practice.

"My father had a real sense of purpose and a calling to serve others," Amy says. "I saw his therapeutic work with vulnerable patients suffering from obesity and other debilitating health concerns, and I understood the life-changing impact of quality treatment. Dad taught me the value of combining knowledge and intention with real concern for the well-being of others, which motivated me to forge my own path in this field."

Amy's approach to medical marketing is deeply personal, born from this early exposure to the transformative power of healthcare. This perspective allows her to empathize with the needs of both medical professionals and their patients. As such, she creates marketing campaigns that resonate with her target audiences. By understanding the unique challenges and opportunities within the medical field, Amy is able to deliver exceptional results.

Her current role as Public Relations/Account Executive for The Shopper and Doctor to Doctor Magazine exemplifies Amy's wide-ranging skill set even as she focuses on healthcare clients. Amy develops new market territories and represents the publication at high-profile events. Amy's impressive client list includes Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Virginia Oncology Associates, Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group, Family Medicine Healthcare, and several other prominent medical practitioners.

Amy sees The Shopper and Doctor to Doctor and their accompanying websites as the "go-to platforms" for connecting medical professionals across the bustling Hampton Roads metropolitan region.

"Doctor to Doctor, in particular, is direct-mailed to all doctors and other medical professionals across Southside Hampton Roads, linking physicians, dentists, hospital CEOs, and occupational and physical therapists through feature stories crafted by professional writers," Amy says. "Doctor to Doctor enables providers to share information and connect referral sources, and of course publishes medical columns by local experts themselves."

Amy is set to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management from Chicago's DeVry University. Committed to growth and learning, she stays current with industry trends. Her dedication to staying at the forefront of her field is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her clients.

"When I see the remarkable dedication

I'm reminded of the impact that
healthcare professionals have on people's lives."
-Amy Brewer

"When I see the remarkable dedication my medical clients bring to their patients, I'm reminded of the impact that healthcare professionals have on people's lives," Amy says. "And so I aim to help these providers reach those who need them. I genuinely believe that, by supporting these professionals, I'm contributing to people feeling better and getting well, which is what my father lived to do."

Sadly, Amy's father passed away in 2021 at the age of 95.

"Caring for my father during his illness deepened my understanding of the emotional hardships many families face when caring for their loved ones, and it reaffirmed my dedication to helping healthcare providers reach and support those in need," she says. "My father's memory continues to guide me in my work as a source of strength and inspiration."

As for her own children, Amy is the proud mother of four successful adult daughters. Their strong, loving relationships reflect Amy's nurturing spirit, as does her deep love and appreciation for animals, the outdoors, and nature.

"Growing up on a large farm nurtured my connection to the natural world," Amy says. "And I still like to spend my free time out in nature when circumstances allow. Especially walking the dogs!"
As she continues to connect medical professionals to those who need them most, Amy Brewer exemplifies how one's upbringing, values, and life experiences can culminate in a career that makes a difference in the lives of others.
