LINDSEY RIDDLE ELLIOTT OF RIDDLE ASSOCIATES

A commercial real estate natural

by Jean Loxley-Barnard

Lindsey Riddle Elliott grew up hearing about Real Estate at the family dinner table.  She did not know then that she would follow in her father’s footsteps, but she did, right out of college 13 years ago. "It was challenging the first couple years," Lindsey remembers with a smile, "but every year, it felt more natural, and I developed more confidence.  It was a gradual process." Even if Lindsey’s father was not Robb Riddle, who recently began a step toward retirement, this Principal Broker at Riddle Associates would likely be immersed in the Real Estate business today.

Lindsey Elliott is a natural.  She loves the energy of all facets of the business.  When clients ask her to find them a property or a buyer for their property - or both - she is honored.  And, from that point forward, her goal is to understand their needs and find a property or buyers just right for them.  Having the advantage of serving both buyers and sellers is a privilege for this professional businesswoman.  Understanding and representing both buyers and sellers makes life so interesting, especially when clients ask her to represent them in selling one property and then buying another.

"Real estate transactions are among the most crucial business decisions people make," Lindsey notes. "I always remember this and guide clients with my expertise as they go through the process," she points out. "And explain all the advantages or disadvantages that I see from my experience, even if my client does not.  Especially if my client does not!" Lindsey has succeeded because of her dedication to being as open with her clients as she would want them to be with her if their roles were reversed.

This capable woman offers good advice where she can, such as advising her clients to consult their trusty advisors like CPAs, financial advisors, or attorneys.  There are financial consequences for any large transaction, and real estate is often the biggest.  While she is an expert in real estate matters, there is no way she can have any client’s whole financial picture the way their personal advisor does.

Lindsey Elliott learns everything she can about a property to determine whether or not it is suitable for a particular client.  There is so much more involved in a transaction than the size of a building, what surrounds it, and if it is the right price.  For instance, when the V. A. announced this month that they are going to build next to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, Lindsey took note right away.  Her mind went straight to which buildings Riddle Associates has for sale or for rent in the vicinity of the hospital that a client might be anxious to acquire.

"I’ve already listed one building close to where the V.A. is locating," Lindsey explains.  With something as dynamic as the V.A., not to mention the hospital itself, near a listing, that is just what an informed Real Estate Broker needs to let clients know.  It’s almost like doing a puzzle for this Broker.  All the pieces need to be considered to see the full view.

Asked if it is challenging to manage her family life with her busy career, Lindsey explains that her work is flexible: technology makes working anywhere an option, fitting nicely into motherhood. Her husband, Kevin Elliott, is a supervisor at Dominion Energy, and they have two remarkable girls: Sydney, age eight, and Kennedy, age three. "And we are very blessed that both grandmothers watch the girls," Lindsey exudes. "We have never had to send our kids to daycare."

With Robb Riddle still involved in the business while taking a step toward retirement, Lindsey has wonderful backup on the job. "We also have a superb team of professionals at Riddle Associates with well over 100 years of combined experience," Lindsey says, glowing.

Located in Chesapeake since being established by Robb in 1988, Riddle Associates has earned a reputation for expertise in the city’s real estate market. To say that the Riddle team knows Chesapeake is an understatement.

"We have an excellent team," Lindsey says with pride, "and we want to continue to grow with exceptional agents who share our work ethics and drive." Having Lindsey as that team’s Principal Broker recognizes both her integrity and popularity with everyone who knows her. Seldom does a realtor-especially one who has only been in the business for 13 years - have such a reputation.

Lindsey believes that most entrepreneurs prefer to own their own properties - especially doctors.

They invest so much in outfitting their offices, it makes sense to buy, build equity, and secure their location.  Every client teaches Lindsey about their business needs and, she believes, helps her understand the needs of their particular profession. "I sold a couple of properties more than once," Lindsey notes with glee.  There is no better compliment for this professional.
