October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a wonderful way to spread information and support to those who need it. But when a close family member is diagnosed, then Breast Cancer Awareness becomes something personal!

Angie is now in year two since being diagnosed. We were extremely lucky that the diagnosis came early and treatment was swift. One more surgery before the end of this year and we should be just about there.

I made the decision on the day of Angie's initial surgery to wear a pink shirt every Friday to support her on her journey and keep it always in the forefront of our lives. Now I do it to honor all those who have made and will make this journey, with no end timeline. Over the last 18 months I have accumulated quite a few pink shirts in several different styles. Our daughters even bought me a "manly" pink sweatshirt to wear on the colder Fridays.




Over the years our business has brought us into contact with too many ladies- and also a male friend- who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, including Decorating Den Interiors corporate officers, colleagues,  clients, and friends alike. Another dear client of ours has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. For Angie, it is payback time, as she plans to support our client in the same way others did for her.

However, life goes on and it is "business as usual,' so with the fall decorating season we are busy with decorating projects all across the region. Whether it is window treatments, furniture, flooring, bedding, accessories, lighting, or kitchen and bathroom remodeling, we are here to help you, so call our office to make your appointment.

We thank you for your encouragement and support and we will continue to do our best in supporting others. Every year we make donations to the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. This October we will do so on behalf of all our clients who call our office for an appointment this month and mention reading this column.
