On Memorial Day, the Mayor's Commission on Veterans Affairs held a commemorative service at Chesapeake City Hall. The Deep Creek Ruritan Club cooked hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings for about 175 people.

The DCRC has been serving the community since its founding in 1947. The club meets at 200 Luray Street, known as the log cabin located behind the Deep Creek Fire Station on George Washington Hgwy. Meetings are every 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm.
