DON'T FORGET TO PHONE

Is your site mobile ready?

In November 2008, a 'Mobile Market View' study was carried out for Yellow Pages by The Kelsey Group.  This study reported that almost 19% of  U.S. mobile users now use a Smartphone, such as Blackberry, MotoQ and IPhone, and that 49% plan to purchase one within two years. With the Internet accessible from almost anywhere, it is not surprising that almost 40% of Smartphone owners use their phones to search the Internet, especially for local products, services, and directions.

Of course, mobile screen sizes are considerably smaller than PC screens, so most web sites are hard to navigate and read unless they have been specifically designed for mobile users.  This is where the importance of browser/system compatibility really counts.  Search engines are now also judging sites based upon how friendly they are to phone users. If you search Google on your PC and Phone simultaneously, you will see different results on your phone, based upon mobile accessibility.

So how can you make sure your site is Smartphone friendly?  Check it out on a Smartphone.  Is it easily readable or navigable? Are Flash items visible? If the answers are no, it would benefit your business to have your site redeveloped for phones.

If your site is dynamic and driven by a database, you may already have such capabilities.  If not, have your web designer copy your site and redevelop it for viewing by phone. Your designer can write a script to detect your visitor and direct the user to the correct version.

Our new state-of-the-art WebUpdate4 sites automatically detect the visitor and show them different content based upon their browser and connection speed, thus making sure that the site is accessible to the highest possible number of potential customers. If you are ready to take your business to the next level, now is the time to research newer web technologies, such as our own WebUpdate4 system, which includes many advanced features designed to give your business the best competitive edge online.

'Working with Terry was a pure pleasure. I'm not computer savvy, and Terry was ex-tremely patient, explaining everything I needed to know to work my site efficiently.  My site is fast, pleasing to the eye and very customer friendly.  I believed I was a small store and could not afford to hire a professional to redesign my site. Now I realize I couldn't afford NOT to!'
